In Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) there are 3 ways to travel quickly. In this guide, you will learn how to unlock fast travel permanently.
Unlock Fast Travel
After completing the main mission “Money Lending and other Sins” (Strauss) in Chapter 2, you unlock the ledger. Then you can put money in the tithing box and upgrade your camp. Buy the two Camp Upgrades in the lodging category “First Things First” ($ 220) and “Next in Line” ($ 325). That’s $ 545 total. The second upgrade unlocks a fast travel map behind Arthur’s tent!
The downside is that it can only be used to get to already discovered towns, but there is no way to travel back to the camp. That’s where the next tip might be useful, so keep reading.
Horse Travel Use (Autopilot)
There is a hidden feature that the game never tells you about! Simply place a waypoint anywhere on the map, then ride on the road and hold down the touchpad (PS4)/View-Button (XB1).
This will cause your horse to automatically run to the marked location! You can put the controller down and sit back. This works similar to Assassin’s Creed, sometimes it does not work out that way.
Stagecoaches or Railway
There is also a quick trip to train stations and stagecoaches for a small fee ($5 – $15). But this is only between towns, not to your own camp. So you can only drive to one town near your camp and ride the rest on horseback.
