Explorer Backpacks and Archivist Maps are used to mark hidden items and other secrets on the map. The Explorer backpacks, much like Archivist Maps, are hard to find in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and you should usually do anything to find them. They are very helpful when going for 100% game completion.
