Overwatch 2 internet infrastructure will undergo a comprehensive revamp to ensure player safety and identify suspicious account activity. First Time User Experience and SMS Protect (Phone Authentication) are two of the most significant actions. It being done in that direction (Entry Level Restrictions and Monitoring).
SMS Protect would make it impossible to open an account without a phone while enabling gamers to add a second degree of security to their accounts through mobile verification. Players on all platforms will be required to add a phone number to their Battle.net account starting October 4 to access Overwatch 2.
Overwatch 2 Improvements
When creating a new account, a phone number may only be used once and is limited to one per account. To play Overwatch 2, even prior Overwatch owners must enable SMS to protect. This is the first of several deliberate decisions to improve the online setting and player experiences. Additionally, more innovative options like FTUE focus on play sessions and entry hurdles.
To promote healthy interactions and prevent any early prejudices against the lower-level teams, Overwatch 2 will also remove player levels from the display before competitive matches. Machine learning technologies for real-time transcription and handling of abusive language are also applied to voice chat.
When Overwatch 2 launches on October 4, all of these features and more will be available. However, the “Defense Matrix” team, who developed these features, stated that there is more to come and that they would be working continually to maintain this healthy approach for a very long time.
