PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan ‘flew to Brussels’ to Appeal concerns

Jim Ryan, reportedly met with EU officials to express his worries over Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment went to European Union

Jim Ryan, personally went to the offices of the European Union. This is to express PlayStation’s worries about Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

In January this year, Microsoft announced that it would buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion in an all-cash deal. It dwarfs the Take-$12.7 Two’s million acquisition of Zynga as the second-largest acquisition in the history of the video gaming industry.

No precise nature of his visit

Ryan has not provided details about the precise nature of his visit, which he spoke with, or what he said. However, as has been said, PlayStation has been particularly critical of Microsoft’s efforts in the UK and EU. Even though its priorities are somewhat biased, the fact that Ryan took the time to react personally demonstrates how seriously PlayStation is treating the problem.

Call of Duty will stay available on PlayStation

At this time, it’s unclear whether the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard is seriously in jeopardy or if regulatory authorities are carrying out their due diligence.

Despite Microsoft’s assurances that Call of Duty will stay available on PlayStation platforms for years into the future, which Sony deemed insufficient, PlayStation maintains that the acquisition of titles like Call of Duty by Microsoft would have “huge negative ramifications for gamers.”

Takeaway

To gain an advantage over Xbox, Sony has spent years negotiating exclusive contracts with Activision Blizzard for Call of Duty content. Regulating bodies aren’t concerned about that, though. It is unclear whether PlayStation’s future actions will further obstruct Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
