Update directly to the release: For games of this size it is important to provide an update for download early, explains Rockstar. Therefore, there will also be an update for RDR 2 directly to the start on October 26th.
What’s in the Day 1 patch? This patch targets a few bug fixes and customizations.
Why should you download this? To provide the best possible gaming experience, Rockstar Games recommends downloading the update.
It sounds like the patch is optional and not forced. So if you can not wait to play, you could probably start earlier. But then expect more bugs.
