Tekken 8 has now been officially confirmed by Bandai Namco after it was teased during the Evo 2022 fighting game competition. The teaser does not specify a release date; instead, it says “Stay Tuned” in place of one.
Kayuza vs Jin
Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama engage in combat in the trailer. Before the two engage in a traditional Tekken brawl that includes fists and dropkicks, Kazuya admonishes Jin. The game’s visual fidelity is highlighted in the teaser, which features close-ups of bulging muscles and the setting spewing water in response to the character’s motions.
Kazuya and Jin engaged in a back-and-forth battle, with Jin ultimately winning at the end of the trailer. Before flashing the Tekken 8 logo, the screen displays a chain link breaking. Following a teaser at Evo, Tekken 8 was said to be in the works. In the teaser, Heihachi is dropped off a cliff by Kazuya during a sequence from the original Tekken. Then Kazuya starts acting more realistically, as the words “Get Ready” suddenly appear on the screen.
Director of Tekken Katsuhiro Harada stepped on stage after the preview and gave several of the Evo hosts hugs before departing. Although it was a cryptic approach to tease a game, everyone appeared to understand what it meant.
No official announcement on whether Tekken 8 will be a PlayStation exclusive
The first game in the series, Tekken 7, came out in 2015 and has since received frequent updates. Given that Tekken 7 was published on both Xbox and PC, it is unclear whether Tekken 8 will be a PlayStation exclusive. If it did become exclusive, Sony and PlayStation would benefit greatly.
Final thoughts
Bandai Namco gave Tekken 7 a lot of support, and they’ll probably continue to do so for the duration of the next installment as well. Although there is no release date, the phrase “stay tuned” suggests that further details will soon be available.
